How To Roll A Blunt Perfectly: The Foolproof Guide

Learning how to roll a blunt is a necessary skill if you want to earn and keep your Stoner Pro Card (patent pending).

Rolling a joint will get you accepted— all cannaseurs should acquire that skill — and rolling a cross joint will get you the adoring looks you’ve been craving all your life.

But to truly set yourself apart from the crowd, you need to know how to roll a blunt — and roll it well.

In this article, the all-things-cannabis experts at cannabisnic give you a step-by-step guide to help you learn, practice, and master the art and science of rolling a blunt.

Blunt 101

example of how to roll a blunt

At its most basic, a blunt is marijuana rolled in a smokable wrapper.

But then, so is a joint and a spliff and a Thai stick. What’s more, you should never, ever refer to one as the other unless you want to lose all cred as a cannaenthusiast.

While you’re here, we’ll set you straight on the blunt angle, but for more information on joints, spliffs, and Thai sticks, take a moment to read these helpful articles:

  • Blunt, Joint, Spliff: What’s The Difference?
  • Thai Sticks: The Ultimate Cannabis Blunt

OK, so now let’s focus on what makes a blunt a blunt. We’ll address this question by breaking everything down into five categories:

  • Interior
  • Exterior
  • Color
  • Size
  • Flavor

Doing so will give you points of reference for when you compare a blunt to a joint to a spliff to a Thai stick.

Interior

The interior of a blunt is strictly marijuana. The strain doesn’t matter one lick — only that it’s 100-percent cannabis.

A blunt mixed with any non-cannabis-based product is not a blunt and should be referred to by a different name.

Exterior

This is what makes a blunt a blunt and sets it apart from all the other smokable marijuana products.

A blunt is a piece of tobacco paper or cleaned-out cigar wrap filled with your choice of marijuana.

Color

Blunts are brown, and that’s all you get. No wacky colors or fun prints. Just the dull brown color of dirt or mud.

Size

Blunts can range in size. But because they use wrap or paper meant for cigars, they are almost always longer and thicker than the typical joint.

While the length doesn’t vary all that much, the thickness can fluctuate depending on the size of the wrapper you’re using and the amount of marijuana you pack inside.

Flavor

The flavor of a blunt depends, in large part, on the type of wrapping you use.

At the most basic, you’ll taste tobacco alongside your strain of choice. Sometimes that’s good. Sometimes it’s bad.

You’ll have to experiment to find the right strain/wrapper combination (or you could just purchase a pre-rolled Honest Blunt — the freshest, most flavorful, longest-burning blunt available).

Now that you can distinguish a blunt from a joint from a stick in the ground, let’s discuss how to roll a blunt.

How To Roll A Blunt

What You’ll Need

  • Cigars or cigar wraps
  • Your favorite strain of weed
  • Grinder
  • Small knife or razor blade
  • Clean tray to work on
  • Water
  • Paper towel
  • Patience
  • Practice

Instructions

1A) Buy A Cigar Wrap

There are two ways to get started learning how to roll a blunt (hence the 1A here and the 1B below): the easy way and the hard way.

The easy way is to buy an empty cigar wrap at your local smoke shop or online — actually, the easiest way is to buy a pre-rolled blunt.

But there is something to be said about DIY, so you should at least know how to roll a blunt on your own even if you don’t do it that often.

1B) Empty The Tobacco Out Of A Cigar

This takes a little bit of doing, but the results are well worth the effort. Before you start, be sure you have multiple cigars on hand because you will make mistakes and have to start over.

Look and feel for a bump or “vein” that runs the length of the cigar. That’s the glue the manufacturer used to seal the cigar, and that’s where you want to split it.

You can use your fingers to massage and “crack” the cigar, or you can use a small knife (an X-acto or razor blade works well) to slice the cigar in half lengthwise.

Once you’ve gotten the cigar open, empty the tobacco into a bowl if you want to use it again or the garbage if you don’t.

Feel free to cut off the glue ridge with a sharp edge of your choice.

2) Grind Your Weed

tool for grinding weed

If you don’t have a grinder, get one. It makes everything easier.

If you need to clean said grinder, take a few minutes to read our instructional article How To Clean A Grinder In 5 Easy Steps. Doing so — actually cleaning the grinder, not just reading the article — will improve the taste and experience of your final blunt.

Grind up 1-1.5 grams of your favorite bud so you have plenty to work with. And don’t get too aggressive with your grinding.

The goal here is a nice, fluffy consistency with plenty of small chunks. This facilitates airflow and makes the burn easier and more enjoyable.

3) Moisten The Cigar Wrap

This step is optional — and with practice, you may not need it anyway — but we want to make it easy for those first-timers out there.

With a damp paper towel, pat the cigar wrap until it feels moist. Be careful not to saturate the cigar wrap with too much liquid (so no dunking it in a bowl of water).

Getting the cigar wrap just a little bit wet will make it easier to work with and prevent it from tearing in places it shouldn’t.

4) Load It Up

Pack the empty cigar wrap with as much weed as possible. This makes the end product better because an underloaded blunt will collapse after you light it.

Pro Tip: Load up the center of the blunt with more weed than the ends. When you roll it, the weed tends to spread and fill out the ends for a nice, even thickness.

5) Roll It Up

This is the part that takes patience and practice.

Roll the cannabis-filled cigar wrap between your fingers and thumbs until you’ve got a closed tube with weed inside. Be gentle so you don’t crack or tear the cigar wrap and ruin the look and feel of your blunt.

When you’ve got the blunt all closed up, moisten the exposed edge from end to end and then seal it down (like licking an envelope).

Pro Tips:

  1. Practice your rolling technique with the tobacco from the now-empty cigar and a quarter of a piece of printer paper (4.25” x 5.5” or 10.8 cm x 14 cm for those of you who can handle the metric system).
  2. As an alternative to licking the edge before closing, you can seal your blunt with a bit of cannabis oil if you’re feeling really daring and want an extra kick.
  3. “Bake” the blunt by running a lighter lengthwise under the seam and around the outside to help seal everything together.

6) Light It Up

man lighting up a blunt

After admiring the beauty of the blunt you’ve created, light that sucker up! Toke it for yourself or puff, puff, pass with your friends.

Blunt Benefits

1) Burn Time

The thickness and composition of the wrapper make a blunt burn slower than the more short-lived, flash-in-the-pan joint.

Burn time is a major bonus, especially when smoking in a group. Participants get more tokes because the whole thing lasts longer.

2) A Different Type Of Buzz

The tobacco in the cigar wrap provides a “buzz” similar to the caffeine in coffee.

This pleasurable effect often precedes the cannabis high, makes for a different type of buzz, and is a nice addition to the cannabis experience.

3) A Higher High

Blunts are usually thicker than joints, and many feel that they get higher from a blunt because of the extra cannabis.

Whether this is true in all cases or just a matter of perception is open for debate, but the addition of tobacco may have something to do with it as well.

Get Creative With Your Blunts

We talked about the construction of a blunt at the beginning of this article — inside is cannabis, outside is cigar wrap.

After you’ve got those basics, though, the sky’s the limit on what you can add to make your blunt even better.

To help you customize your blunt, here are some DIY suggestions that take everything to a whole new level.

  1. Sprinkle a dash of kief on top of your cannabis before you close to add a kick of flavor and a bump of psychedelic effects to your blunt
  2. Moisten your blunt with THC oil and roll the whole thing in kief if you’re really adventurous
  3. Roll a Backwoods blunt
  4. Add some wax or shatter or budder to the inside of your blunt
  5. Roll a cross blunt
  6. Make your own moon rock weed and add it to the mix

Get creative and we’re sure you’ll come up with some cool variations of your own.

Will All Blunts Get You High?

trippy neon lights

This may seem like a trick question because when you first learn how to roll a blunt, you’ll probably be doing it for the sole purpose of taking a psychedelic trip.

Because of that, you may think that all blunts are the same and that all blunts will get you high.

We’re here to inform you, friend, that they won’t. It all depends on what you roll inside.

Yes, the outside is always going to be cigar wrap — if it’s not, you’re smoking something else — but, on the inside, your blunt can be anything you want it to be.

It can be hemp. It can be a high THC strain. It can be a high CBD/low THC strain. As long as you’re rolling with some form of cannabis, a blunt it will be.

Latet Cannabis News!

That highlights the importance of knowing a bit about the ganja you’ve got on your hands.

If you bought it yourself, you’ll know what it is. But if someone hands you a zip and tells you to show them how to roll a blunt, you’ll want to ask some questions before you take a toke.

Once you’ve got the information you need, here are some general rules for assessing the possibility that the blunt will get you high.

  1. If the cannabis you roll in your blunt contains one percent THC or less (commonly known as hemp), you won’t feel a thing.
  2. If the cannabis you roll in your blunt contains one percent to five percent THC, you’ll start to feel something (depending on your pot experience).
  3. If the cannabis you roll in your blunt contains five percent to 10 percent THC, you’ll probably hear a shape or two.
  4. If the cannabis you roll in your blunt contains 10 percent to 15 percent THC, you’ll be well on your way to high town.
  5. If the cannabis you roll in your blunt contains anything above 15 percent THC, kiss reality goodbye.
  6. If the cannabis you roll in your blunt is a CBD-dominant strain used for medicinal purposes, you will not get high.

So, back to the original question: Will all blunts get you high?

No, they won’t. The lower the THC dose, the less likely you’ll feel anything at all.

What Does A Blunt High Feel Like?

Again, it all depends on what you load in your blunt before you roll it up.

THC

If the strain (or creative extras) are more than one percent THC, you’re going to find yourself experiencing the seven stages of being high.

These include:

  1. A dramatic shift in your reality (what we’ve dubbed the “what-the-eff-just-happened moment”)
  2. Euphoria and a complete lack of all worries
  3. Deep contemplation
  4. Paranoia
  5. The Munchies
  6. Contentment and happiness
  7. Fade out and sleep

That’s not to say that you won’t encounter more (or fewer) stages from your blunt high, but these are the most common ones we’ve experienced in our many years dating Mary Jane.

CBD

If the strain you add to your cigar wrap is high-CBD/low-THC, you’ll experience a different set of feelings than you would with a THC strain.

These include:

  1. Relaxation
  2. Less nausea
  3. Increased appetite
  4. Less pain and swelling
  5. Improved mood
  6. Less anxiety
  7. More focus
  8. Dry mouth

Additionally, CBD is unique in that it can interfere with your liver’s ability to process other drugs (read, prescription drugs). Be sure to talk to your doctor about potential conflicts before you add CBD blunts to your repertoire.

It’s also important to understand that CBD is biphasic, meaning that, at low levels, it provides a certain list of effects, while at high levels, it provides a different list of effects.

If this seems foreign to you, think about alcohol (also biphasic). At low levels, it’s a stimulant. At high levels, it’s a depressant.

CBD doesn’t act exactly the same as alcohol — stimulant on one end, depressant on the other — but the effects will change as the dosage level increases.

Hand-Rolling Vs. Machine-Rolling

Woman showing how to roll a blunt

The instructions above focus mainly on learning how to roll a blunt the old-fashioned way: by hand.

But there is another way — the blunt-rolling machine.

We use a large, industrial blunt-rolling machine to produce some of the best blunts in the business.

Our machine is a mass of gears and motors and computer controls that can roll hundreds, if not thousands of perfect blunts every day.

But for those of you who only need one or two blunts a day — and don’t have a big pile of cash burning a hole in your pocket — there are plenty of simple manually-operated blunt-rolling machines on the market.

If you’ve ever seen a joint-rolling machine, the concept is the same for the blunt-rolling machine, only slightly bigger.

Most of these “machines” cost less than ten bucks and make building a blunt so easy that even a complete noob could sit down and figure it out.

That said, we firmly believe that everyone should learn how to roll a blunt by hand.

We tell everyone who asks us for advice and guidance the same thing: learn the skill so that you’ve got the skill in your toking toolbox.

You just never know when you’ll be without your trusty machine or find yourself somewhere that you can’t get a hold of one of HMJ’s delicious blunts.

So why do we even bring up the whole issue of hand-rolling vs. machine-rolling — other than to encourage you to learn the skill for yourself?

Because there’s a whole debate among cannaenthusiasts about which method is better.

Only One Or The Other Will Do

Many feel that hand-rolling is the purest way to build all your joints, blunts, spliffs, and Thai sticks, and that machine-rolling is flying the finger in the face of the cannagods.

Basically, they feel that anything you can smoke is better having been hand-rolled — with the exception of the bong, we guess, which would burn the hell out of your hands if you tried it.

It reminds us of the legend that the best Cuban cigars were hand-rolled on the thighs of virgins.

Really? What does that do?

Absolutely nothing, except perhaps introduce a whole hygiene issue into the discussion.

The hand-rolled angle was just a way to make that particular cigar stand out. It didn’t contribute to the taste or the smoker’s overall enjoyment. The quality of the wrapper and the stuff on the inside did that.

The one concession we will make is that whoever came up with the whole “virgin thigh” thing was a frickin’ genius because we’re still talking about it today.

Which Is Better?

upclose of a flame of some one smoking a blunt

Honestly, cannaboys and cannagirls, it’s entirely up to you.

Asking which is better, hand-rolling or machine-rolling, is like asking which is better, cats or dogs? Toyota or Chevy? Coffee or tea? Pens or pencils? Yoda OG or Blue Dream?

Remember, variety is the spice of life and different strokes for different folks.

It all comes down to whatever makes your smoking experience the most enjoyable.

Because, either way — whether you hand-roll or machine-roll — when all is said and done, you’ve still got a joint in your hand. That’s really all that matters.

We recommend that you learn both methods and then decide for yourself which one to use most often.

Pros And Cons Of Hand-Rolled Vs. Machine-Rolled

Again, we’re not taking sides in the debate over hand-rolled versus machine-rolled anything. We do recommend that you learn how to hand-roll for yourself.

You never know when society is going to break down and you’ll turn into a nomadic stoner hunting for whatever landrace strain you can find.

Think of it as a survival skill!

After you learn how to roll a blunt, you can do whatever makes you feel good and use a machine eight times out of ten.

We don’t care. We just want everyone to know how to do for themselves. To help you decide, here’s a list of pros and cons from each side of the issue.

Hand-Rolled Blunts

Pros

  • No need for extra supplies
  • Master a new skill
  • Roll anywhere

Cons

  • Takes practice
  • Not the fastest method
  • Produces irregular joints

Machine-Rolled Blunts

Pros

  • Uniformity
  • Easy to use
  • Fast

Cons

  • Bad rollers produce bad blunts
  • Only rolls one size
  • Can develop into snobbish behavior

Many of the pros and cons of the hand-rolled versus machine-rolled debate are the same for joints as well.

For a more in-depth discussion of these pros and cons, check out this article from the HMJ blog: Joint-Rolling Machine Vs. Hand-Rolling: Which Is Better?

Marijuana Wax: A Complete Guide

Marijuana smokers have always been a creative lot. Take for example, all the terms we have for dating Mary Jane (oops, there’s another one):  bake, toke, hit the hippie lettuce, rip, get irie, bug out, and many, many more.

But recently, a new term—dabbing—has been growing in popularity as marijuana aficionados discover its benefits. Dabbing involves vaporizing marijuana concentrates, so, while it’s similar to smoking the traditional spliff, it’s also very different.

It’s these cannabis concentrates that we’ve come here to talk about today and we’ll be focusing on one in particular:  marijuana wax (or just “wax”). Let’s start from the beginning.

Table of Contents

What Is Marijuana Wax?

a small container of marijuana wax

Marijuana wax is a form of hash oil concentrate (or just “concentrate”) often produced using a process known as butane hash oil extraction.

If those terms are foreign to you, don’t worry. We’ll explain them in the next section.

For now, it’s enough to know that marijuana wax got its name because, in its final form, it looks like earwax or, more appetizingly, thick honey.

Now before you get grossed out by its appearance, look back at the first sentence in this section. Notice that wax is a concentrate. What does that mean?

It means that wax contains more THC than your traditional marijuana (sometimes 80% or more). Are you starting to see the appeal?

But how is marijuana wax made and how does it get to be so potent? Here’s how.

Creating Marijuana Wax: Butane Extraction

Chemical compound of Butane

Marijuana wax is most commonly made through a process known as butane extraction.

Traditional marijuana buds are packed into a tube or pipe and then butane—more commonly known as lighter fluid—is forced through the contents.

Thanks to some really complicated and technical sciency stuff that we don’t need to be concerned with, the butane bonds with the THC in the buds and essentially pulls it from the plants. The butane is then allowed to evaporate and the resulting concentrate is an oily substance aptly called butane hash oil.

If the process of creating butane hash oil is still a bit hazy (pun intended), think about it in another, more familiar way.

If marijuana buds were sugar, butane extraction would be like boiling sugar water until it becomes thick. The resulting substance—caramel—is a much sweeter form of the sugar you started with because all the “extra stuff” has been removed (through the boiling) leaving only the sweetness behind.

That’s butane extraction in a nutshell. The butane extraction is also why the concentrates are so much more potent than traditional marijuana:  because the extraction process pulled out all the THC and left the “extra stuff” behind.

Once the extraction process is complete, the butane hash oil concentrate is then either hardened to form shatter or cooked a bit longer to form marijuana wax.

Now before you run out to buy some butane to make your own marijuana wax, be warned:  butane extraction is a very dangerous process if not performed correctly.

First of all, butane is a highly flammable substance that can explode if not handled properly.

Second, butane vapors can collect at low levels (the floor) where you’re not likely to detect them until it’s too late. Add any kind of spark to this mix and you’ve got big problems.

Third, butane vapor can be deadly if inhaled in high quantities so it’s important to work in a well-ventilated area.

Butane extraction is very similar to the process used to make methamphetamines (meth) and we’ve all seen the charred results on TV when that goes wrong (no more trailer!).

Bottom line: Leave butane extraction to the experts with the fancy (and expensive) equipment

Instead, try this much safer option to get your DIY marijuana wax on.

How To Make Marijuana Wax At Home

Ice Water Extraction

Ice extraction for making marijuana wax

Ice water extraction is ideal for those who don’t want to worry about explosions or fires but still want the satisfaction of making their own marijuana wax from scratch.

The marijuana wax you make with ice water extraction is also called bubble wax (or sometimes bubble hash) because of the bubble bags (fancy names for the sieve-like screens) you use to separate the trichomes from the plant matter.

Ice water extraction is extremely safe (‘cause, as far as we know, ice water has yet to explode or catch fire), but the process does require a bit more time, patience, and elbow grease than other extraction methods.

Be patient and keep at it! The results are well worth the effort.

Ingredients

  1. Your favorite high-quality high-CBD or high-THC strain
  2. 10-15 pounds of ice
  3. 5-gallon buckets (at least one for mixing and one for wet screens)
  4. Purified water
  5. Cheesecloth
  6. Stir sticks
  7. Bubble bags (check online for this item)

Instructions

  1. Layer your bubble bag or screen (three or four of them) in the bucket from smallest to largest. The smaller the number, the smaller the screen.
  2. Add 3-4 ounces of high-quality cannabis.
  3. Pour half a bag of ice on top of the cannabis.
  4. Add enough purified water (about eight cups) to cover the cannabis under the ice.
  5. Mix the ice, water, and buds together.
  6. Continue to agitate the mixture for 15 or 20 minutes.
  7. Let the mix settle for another 20 or 30 minutes.
  8. Lift the first bubble bag part-way out and let it drain back into the bucket. You can even shake and squeeze the bag to get all the water out.
  9. Set that bag aside.
  10. Remove the next bubble bag and scrape out the material at the bottom of the screen (a spoon works great here). This is marijuana wax!
  11. Deposit the wax onto your cheesecloth. This is the least pure form of marijuana wax (but it’s still good) so keep going.
  12. Remove the next bubble bag and let it drain into the bucket. Don’t squeeze this bag to remove the water. Just let it drain.
  13. Scrape out the goo at the bottom of the bag and deposit it onto your cheesecloth. There should be more material in this bag compared to the first one. And it will be lighter in color and contain less plant matter.
  14. Continue removing bubble bags from the bucket and scraping out the marijuana wax material until you’ve reached the last one.
  15. Fold the cheesecloth on top of the goo and press gently to remove the leftover water.
  16. You’re left with three or four different grades of marijuana wax depending on how many screens you used. Keep in mind that you can mix all the concentrate together. You don’t have to keep it separate. We just wanted to highlight the different qualities so you understand what you’re getting.
  17. Repeat this process one or two more times to get as many of the trichomes off the bud as possible.

That’s it! You’ve learned how to make marijuana wax. Congratulations!

So now that you’ve made your own DIY wax, you’d probably like to get it in your body. Here’s how to do that.

How Is Marijuana Wax Consumed?

Marijuana wax

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, marijuana wax is consumed by vaporizing a small dab of the concentrate with a special bong called a dab rig and then inhaling the smoke.

A dab rig can take several forms and is not much different from a regular marijuana bong, but the vaporizer does have a few extra parts you should know about.

There are two basic differences between a regular bong and a dab rig:  the nail and the dome.

The Nail

The most important part of the dab rig is the nail. A nail can be made from titanium, glass, ceramic, quartz, or any number of other materials.

Each material has its own benefits and drawbacks so make sure you do some research to find the one that works best for you.

The nail is heated (typically with a blowtorch) and then the dab of wax is applied to the HOT surface where it instantly vaporizes (a.k.a. turns to smoke). The smoke can then be drawn down into the pipe just like a traditional bong.

Some dab rigs reverse the process and use a solid glass bowl to hold the wax and a hollow metal nail attached to tubing (like a hookah).

The hollow metal nail is heated and then applied to the wax in the solid glass bowl. A strong inhalation then draws the smoke through the hollow hail, through the tubing, over the water, up the pipe, and into your lungs.

The Dome

The dome is a spherical piece (usually glass) that fits over the nail to help contain the vaporized marijuana wax so that it doesn’t just float off into space.

The dome makes it possible to inhale most of the smoke and allows you to use less wax because you get more vapor in your lungs.

Another Piece You May See

A carb cap is another common piece you may eventually use on your dab rig.

Most dabbing is done by heating the nail to high temperatures but this process can be difficult to learn and do correctly.

To help prevent these “mis-fires”, some dabbers heat the nail to lower temperatures and then use a carb cap instead of a dome. The carb cap creates a mini oven that helps vaporize the marijuana wax at lower temperatures.

Some dabbers claim that the smoke created by using a carb cap and lower temperatures gives a smoother, more enjoyable experience.

Other Ways To Consume Marijuana Wax

Marijuana Wax In A Traditional Bong

Marijuana wax extraction concentrate aka wax crumble

Don’t have a dab rig and all these extra pieces lying around? No worries. With a little bit of doing, you can smoke marijuana wax with a traditional bong.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Find one or two nugs of dried and cured bud (not nugs of wax) in your stash that are slightly larger than the diameter of the downstem.
  2. Insert those nugs of bud into the bowl.
  3. Add a few small pieces of wax.
  4. Gather another nugget of marijuana from your stash, remove any seeds and stems, and, while holding it over the bowl, rip it into small pieces with your fingers. The finer you make it the easier it is to pack in the bowl and the better it will burn. Alternatively, you can use a grinder to shred your cannabis before packing it on top of your wax.
  5. Fill the bowl the rest of the way with shredded marijuana.
  6. Light up, puff away, and pass the bong around.

When you pack the bowl with wax in the middle, you create an oven-like effect — much like the carb cap does — where the wax vaporizes thanks to the burning ganja around it (e.g., at lower temperatures).

These lower temperatures preserve more of the cannabinoids, allowing you to inhale more of the good stuff in every breath.

Marijuana Wax In A Joint, Blunt, Or Spliff

Man smoking a blunt with marijuana wax

Thankfully, the dab rig and the bong aren’t the only ways to have fun with marijuana wax.

Aside from the bong, one of the easiest, most familiar, and most accessible methods is to roll a bit of marijuana wax in your joint, blunt, or spliff. This works well if you’re rolling your own product.

With a little effort, though, you can also add a concentrated kick to pre-rolled blunts and joints.

If you’re rolling a joint or blunt (or even a cross joint) from scratch, cut three or four small pieces of wax off the larger wad and distribute them evenly down the length of your smoke stick before closing.

If you’ve purchased a product from a local dispensary and want to add a bit of marijuana wax to the mix, you’ll have to deconstruct the product, add the wax, and then reroll everything together in order to smoke it.

It’s kind of a pain to do this because you first have to deconstruct the product before reconstructing it. But adding wax to a pre-rolled item is sometimes quicker and less stressful.

After adding the concentrate, you can rely on the “memory” of the wrapper to roll up much quicker instead of struggling again and again to form the flat sheet into something resembling a tube.

The manufacturer has done all the hard work for you (i.e., rolling it the first time).

Marijuana Wax In A Vape Pen

Some vape pens have the capability to vaporize marijuana wax, but be sure to read the specs before you buy.

Most vape pens only burn vape juice or accept specific pre-filled cartridges.

The more expensive ones allow you to increase or decrease the heat in order to vaporize different types of concentrates, including shatter, wax, budder, crumble, and honeycomb.

That said, these types of vape pens are complicated — there are multiple settings you have to tweak before you can smoke — have a steep learning curve, and require lots of practice to master.

If you want to consume your marijuana wax right away, using the supplies you probably already have on-hand is a much better use of your time.

But, if you like the portability, discreteness, and reusability of the vape pen, by all means, find a model that allows you to vaporize marijuana wax and then practice, practice, practice to get it right.

Marijuana Wax In Edibles

We love to mix marijuana wax in our favorite edibles recipes, and we’re sure you will too.

We’ve added it to everything from butter and honey to tea and candy. We’ve even sprinkled it on top of our lunch salad to start our afternoon off on a high note.

Having said that, we always go as small as possible if we have to work after lunch because marijuana wax is concentrated cannabis, has a high THC count (or CBD count if you use a high CBD/low THC strain), and can really knock you on your back if you’re not careful.

There really are few things worse than being couch locked when you’ve got deadlines to meet or trying to balance your checkbook while your desk and computer dance the Lambada in front of you.

Why Is Marijuana Wax Growing In Popularity?

marijuana wax

One word:  Potency.

As mentioned, THC percentages can reach as high as 80% (and sometimes higher). That’s more than three times higher than some of the strongest strains of traditional marijuana (at ~25% THC).

Dabbers testify to two distinct differences between dabbing and smoking:  faster effect and more intense highs.

Many report that the effects of dabbing are almost instantaneous and result in a much more intense high (both visually and physically).

Another reason it’s growing in popularity is because you don’t need much of it to get really high.

Most dabs are less than the size of your pinky nail (picture a mini-chocolate chip) so you can get a pretty big bang with just a little bit of product.

Does Marijuana Wax Cost More?

Yes, because cannabis wax is processed more than traditional marijuana, it costs more than traditional marijuana.

Traditional marijuana flower can cost between $15 and $20 per gram on the west coast while wax and other concentrates can cost between $70 and $100 for the same amount.

So while you may be paying more for the same amount, you’re getting a very high THC content  and will need considerably less of the concentrate to get really high.

It goes back to the old adage, you get what you pay for.

To Wax Or Not To Wax…

Marijuana wax crumble isolated

That is the question.

Though it sounds like a rip-roaring good time, dabbing with marijuana wax may not be for everyone. The best advice? Give it a try and see for yourself.

Maybe you’ll decide to do the dab forevermore. Maybe you’ll stick with the spliff instead. Maybe you’ll mix and match as the mood hits. It’s entirely up to you.

That’s the beauty of marijuana: there’re so many options.

You’re sure to find one that works for you, but you’ve got to try in order to decide.

Not sure what consumption methods are available? Visit the HMJ blog for all the ways you can smoke, dab, rub, and eat your way to a higher tomorrow ((just to name a few). We’re sure you’ll be surprised at all the possibilities.

How To Make Cannamilk In 10 Easy Steps

Cannamilk is a great way to consume marijuana. You can either drink it down directly or use it as an ingredient in other pot recipes. In that sense, then, it’s a very versatile method of getting high or taking your medication.

In this article, the all-things-cannabis experts at CannabisNic discuss cannamilk in all its glory and give you instructions for whipping up a batch in your very own home.

At the end, because we like you so much, we’ll even reveal the secret to cooking the best cannamilk possible.

Table of Contents

What Is Cannamilk?

As the name suggests, cannamilk is cannabis-infused milk.

In fact, cannamilk is very similar to other edibles, such as:

All of these delicious and useful edibles contain the “dissolved” cannabinoids from pot flowers without all the plant matter that just gets in the way and dilutes the experience.

But don’t just grab a gallon of milk from the fridge and dump your pot in. That won’t work.

There are several steps you have to take first before that stuff will do your body good.

More Than Just Milk And Raw Weed

nuggets of weed to use for a glass of cannamilk
Raw Weed

Unfortunately, making cannamilk — or any cannabis edible — isn’t like mixing chocolate milk.

You can’t just scoop out a spoonful of your favorite strain, stir it into a glass of milk, and hope to get high or reduce your anxiety.

Weed doesn’t work like that because raw cannabis straight off the plant is not psychoactive.

Why? Because your body can’t process the raw plant matter in a way that would get the cannabinoids into your bloodstream and to your brain where they have the most effect.

If, for some reason, you did choose to partake of raw weed (don’t do it), your body would just digest the plant matter as it would any other leafy green. That’s the best-case scenario.

On the other side of the coin, your body may decide to reject the raw plant matter completely. The results would be stomach problems, diarrhea, and vomiting. That’s the worst-case scenario.

So, what’s a cannaboy or cannagirl to do to activate the psychedelic and pain-fighting properties of their chosen strain and get the most out of their cannamilk?

Decarboxylate!

Always Decarboxylate First

Yeah, it’s a big word, but it’s not as scary as all that.

It basically means to heat dried and cured cannabis in order to 1. make it more digestible, and 2. activate the cannabinoids so you feel more of the psychoactive and medicinal effects.

Here’s how to decarb your ganja in preparation for making edibles:

  • Preheat your oven to 230℉.
  • If you haven’t already, break up the dried buds into small pieces with your hands.
  • Spread the small pieces and flakes on a baking sheet (one with a rim works best).
  • Bake the cannabis at 230℉ for 35 minutes.
  • Stir the cannabis every 10 minutes to ensure even toasting.
  • After 35 minutes, check the cannabis. It should be light- to medium-brown in color and should be very dry. If it’s not, put it back in the oven for a further 5-10 minutes. Keep an eye on everything so it doesn’t burn.
  • When finished baking, remove the cannabis from the baking sheet and let it cool. Careful, it’s going to be very crumbly at this point.
  • When the cannabis has cooled sufficiently, put it in a food processor and pulse until the weed is coarsely ground (like oregano).

For a deep dive into all things decarboxylation, check out this article from the HMJ blog: Marijuana Decarboxylation: Why And How To Decarb Your Weed.

And if you’re wondering why you don’t have to decarb your weed before smoking a joint, blunt, spliff, or bong, it’s because setting your weed on fire is instantaneous decarboxylation — no oven necessary. The problem with that if you’re planning on making cannamilk is that there’s no ganja left with which to cook.

So, instead of naked flame, we use low-and-slow heat in order to preserve the cannabis intact for the next step.

How To Make Cannamilk

The Higher The Fat, The Higher You’ll Get

Cannabinoids such as THC, CBD, CBG, and CBN absorb into fat much more readily than they do other liquids (with the exception of alcohol and some chemicals such as hydrocarbons).

cannabis being weighed for cannamilk

That’s good news for cannamilk enthusiasts!

The more fat there is in the milk you start with, the more cannabinoids will absorb into — and stay in — the final product.

In essence, then, the higher the fat, the less cannamilk you’ll need and the higher you’ll get.

The whole fat variable also means that you can use other types of milk (e.g., soymilk, almond milk, coconut milk) instead of cow’s milk, which, because of the lactose, may cause stomach issues.

If you want to try one of these vegan/vegetarian options, choose an alternative that offers at least three grams of fat per serving. That will facilitate cannabinoid absorption and make for a potent final product.

Ingredients & Supplies

  • 7-10 grams of your favorite cannabis
  • 2 cups of milk
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Weed grinder
  • Large saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Storage container with lid
  • Cooking thermometer

Instructions

NOTE: We are using a small amount of milk in this recipe (2 cups), but you can scale the amounts up or down by using the same ratio of marijuana to milk (~10 grams/2cups milk).

So, for example, if you wanted to make one cup of cannamilk, you would divide the ratio above by two to get ~5 grams of marijuana for 1 cup of milk.

If you wanted to make four cups of cannamilk, you’d multiply the ratio by two to get ~20 grams of marijuana for 4 cups of milk. It’s simple math, so it shouldn’t be too difficult (unless you’re way too high).

Once you’ve got the ratios all figured out, here’s how to put them to use.

  1. Grind your decarboxylated bud into small pieces and dump them into a large saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan on the stove.
  3. Pour in 2 cups of milk.
  4. Whisk the two ingredients together.
  5. Set your stovetop to low heat and monitor the temperature with the cooking thermometer until it reaches 220 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. From there, maintain 220 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes, stirring the mixture every five minutes or so.
  7. After 45 minutes, remove the pan from the burner and allow the cannamilk to cool to a safe handling temperature.
  8. Slowly pour the cannamilk through the strainer or cheesecloth into your chosen storage container.
  9. You can strain the milk a second, or even a third, time to make sure all the plant matter is gone (leaving little bits behind won’t hurt you, but it will change the taste and texture of the cannamilk and any recipes you add it to).
  10. Store your freshly-made cannamilk in a covered container in the refrigerator.

That’s all there is to it!

From there, you can either drink the cannamilk straight, add it to a bowl of Cap ‘N Crunch, or mix it into your favorite recipes.

However you choose to consume your cannamilk, start with a small dose, take it slow, and be patient.

This is good advice for all edibles as they have a tendency to take an hour or more to kick in. But when they do, they kick hard. Be warned.

High-Quality Organic Weed For The Best Cannamilk

Different strains produce different effects. That’s why we encourage you to experiment with the strain you use in your cannamilk.

Try a sativa (Sour Diesel, Jack Herer, Durban Poison), an indica (Purple Punch, Ice Cream Cake, Northern Lights), a hybrid (Blue Dream, Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, Frooty Pebbles), or even a landrace strain if you can get your hands on one.

Latest Canna News

It all depends on the results you’re looking for.

Regardless of the strain you choose, always opt for the highest-quality bud you can afford. Low-quality bud, such as mids and regs, will produce a low-quality final product.

  • That low-quality final product will diminish any psychoactive or medicinal effects you experience.
  • When you cook up a batch of cannamilk, or any edible for that matter, always use the best bud you can get your hands on — the strain doesn’t matter — so that the end result doesn’t leave you dissatisfied and downhearted.
  • Plus, with a high-quality, organic strain, you’ll need less cannamilk to experience the effects you’re after.
  • A little high-quality bud goes a long way.
  • Talk to the budtenders at your local dispensary to find out what strains they recommend for your needs.

CBD Honey Sticks: What They Are And What You Need To Know

Honey is a delicious and nutritious food all by itself. But mix in a bit of CBD and you’ve got a tasty treat that is also a medicine. And what better way to take your medicine with you than in the form of easy-to-use CBD honey sticks.

In this article, the cannabis experts at CannabisNic tell you everything you need to know about CBD honey sticks and provide a step-by-step guide for making your own.

Table of Contents

What Are CBD Honey Sticks?

side view of several jars of honey

CBD honey sticks (a.k.a. honey straws) are pretty much exactly what they sound like: straws filled with CBD honey that you can throw in your purse or backpack for an easy, on-the-go CBD treat.

There are actually two types of honey sticks: the liquid kind and the solid kind.

The solid kind is like a hard candy that you can suck on or stir into a hot beverage. The liquid kind is basically just CBD-infused honey in a sealed tube.

For the purposes of this article, we’ll deal with the “liquid” CBD honey straws because they have fewer additives and are often easier to find at your local dispensary.

How Do You Use CBD Honey Sticks?

You can use CBD honey in so many fun and delicious ways. Just exercise your imagination and we’re sure you’ll come up with your very own unique applications. CBD honey sticks give you the option to take those fun, delicious, and unique methods on the road. That’s the beauty of the honey stick: it’s super portable.

Here are some simple ways to use CBD honey sticks at home or on the move:

  • Cut open the straw and suck out the CBD honey for a quick and tasty treat
  • Pour the CBD honey into your tea
  • Drizzle it over your salad
  • Mix it into your cereal or yogurt
  • Apply the honey on your skin to reduce the pain of stings and burns
  • Moisturize your lips

These suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg. Check out our article 22 Mind-Blowing Ways To Use CBD Honey for even more methods to put your sticks to good use.

Will CBD Honey Sticks Get You High?

marijuana plant

When it comes to CBD products, this is what everyone wants to know. The quick answer is no.

They won’t get you high because they don’t contain the cannabinoid THC. THC is the chemical compound that is responsible for the psychedelic effects that make marijuana so famous (or infamous).

The honey in CBD honey sticks is made from high-CBD, low-THC strains so there’s no reason to worry that you’ll suddenly start feeling words or suffer from a case of the munchies.

What Are The Benefits?

The main benefit of the CBD honey sticks themselves (not the honey you ingest) is that they are extremely portable. You could carry around a container of CBD honey, but that gets bulky and heavy. CBD honey sticks are light, easy to use, and fit just about anywhere.

As for the honey in the CBD honey sticks, it offers a long list of benefits such as:

  • Inhibits cancer cell growth
  • Mediates psychotic disorders
  • Suppresses seizure activity
  • Combats anxiety and depression
  • Relieves pain
  • Reduces swelling
  • Stimulates appetite
  • Eases nausea
  • Tempers neurodegenerative disorders

What Are The Side Effects?

The side effects of CBD honey sticks — like the benefits — come down to the CBD honey inside.

CBD has two major side effects and one regular effect (not necessarily a side effect) you should be aware of.

The two side effects are:

  • Dry mouth
  • Interference with your liver’s ability to break down other drugs

The regular effect you should be aware of is:

  • CBD is biphasic

Let’s discuss the side effects first.

  • The first side effect isn’t really that big of a deal…especially if you’re taking CBD to manage pain or reduce seizures.
  • The second side effect may have serious repercussions for your health if you take a heart medication, a blood-sugar medication, or any type of drug that treats an ailment that CBD doesn’t.

Talk to your doctor before adding CBD honey sticks to your diet.

how the CBD in CBD honey sticks is biphasic.

If you tease apart the unfamiliar word ‘biphasic’ into its constituent parts, you’ll discover two more familiar words: bi- and phase (or, at least a part of the word phase).

Bi-, of course, means two. That’s not too difficult. A phase is a distinct period or stage in a series of events or a process of change or development. Put the two words back together and you discover that biphasic is basically just a fancy term for ‘two different stages’.

So, at certain levels, CBD provides a certain list of effects (stage one). At other — often higher — levels, CBD provides different effects (stage two). This biphasic idea may be new to some readers, but it isn’t all that uncommon. Alcohol, for example, is biphasic.

Below a certain blood alcohol content (BAC), alcohol provides a stimulating effect, which is why you feel energised and ready to party when you first start drinking. Above that blood alcohol content, alcohol provides a depressant effect, which is why people tend to pass out after too many shots.

That’s not to say that CBD will act as a stimulant at one dosage level and a depressant at another, but the effects may change as the dosage increases. It’s worth being aware that the effects of the CBD in your CBD honey sticks may change the more you take, just as it’s worth being aware that you’ll probably experience dry mouth and potential interference with any meds you’re taking.

The more knowledge you have, the better you’ll be able to achieve the best experience every time you partake of your CBD honey sticks.

Be Ready For What’s To Come

Honey for making CBD honey sticks

Getting your cannabinoids from a CBD honey stick, or any edible for that matter, is drastically different from smoking it. Even the same strain will feel a bit different depending on how you partake. And it all comes down to onset and duration.

Smoking weed causes an almost immediate onset of effects but tapers off quickly after that. Think of smoking weed like slamming the accelerator of an F1 race car to the floor. Zero to 100 in four seconds flat is about what it feels like when you’re toking on a strong strain of your favourite weed.

Unfortunately, all that power really eats up the gas, so the thrill — or in the case of CBD honey sticks, the medication — doesn’t last very long.

The effects of smoking weed trail off rapidly over the course of an hour or so until you’re back to normal contending with anxiety, pain, and nausea. On the opposite side of the coin, the CBD in CBD honey sticks causes little to no effects for up to an hour. After that, the effects will build for another hour or so and then taper off slowly over the next two to three hours.

Think of ingesting your CBD like push-starting your F1 race car, accelerating slowly over the course of several miles, and then setting the cruise (do race cars have cruise?) at 55 m.p.h. for a scenic drive through the country. You might not experience the rush of zero to 100 in 4 seconds that you get with smoking, but a CBD honey stick gives you a much longer, more sustained level of effects.

As you can see, it’s important to realize what you’re in for before you partake. Chances are, you’re not going to feel anything for a while after you eat that CBD honey stick. Be patient and refrain from eating another so you don’t create a “bad trip.”

Can You Eat Too Many CBD Honey Sticks?

From a dietary and upset-stomach perspective, yes, you can eat too many CBD honey sticks. Just like drinking too much water, eating too many CBD honey sticks in one sitting will likely give you some digestive issues. That said, if you’re concerned about ingesting too much CBD, allow us to put your mind at ease.

It’s nearly impossible to take in too much CBD if you use it sensibly. The only repercussion one CBD user felt when he took a high dose was a sense of drowsiness. However, the tendency to want to sleep may not even be considered negative if you suffer from insomnia.

So what’s a high dose of CBD? We’re talking something like 50,000 milligrams of CBD. That works out to about 300 milligrams for every 2.5 pounds of body weight. There’s really no reason you would ever have to take that much CBD. In fact, your average 180-pound male suffering from severe pain would only need to take 25 milligrams at most to feel relief. That’s a long way from 50,000 milligrams.

To put that in perspective, 25 milligrams of CBD equals ⅛ teaspoon, while 50,000 milligrams equals about 33 tablespoons. And that’s 33 tablespoons of PURE CBD. You’re not going to get that in any single CBD honey stick. It’s unlikely that you could even eat enough CBD honey sticks in one go to amass enough CBD to cause problems.

So it’s safe to say that, when it comes to getting too much CBD, you can’t eat too many CBD honey sticks.

Can You Make Your Own CBD Honey Sticks?

stove with pots and pans for making CBD honey sticks

Yes, you can. It takes a bit of work, but the end result is a convenient, high-quality CBD honey stick that you can take anywhere.

There are three main steps to the process:

  • Decarboxylate your bud
  • Cook the CBD honey
  • Transfer the CBD honey into straws

We’ll deal with the first two in the next section.

DIY CBD Honey

Ingredients & Supplies

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Slow cooker
  • 15 grams of your favorite marijuana
  • 2 cups of honey (local, if possible)
  • Cheesecloth (10” x 10” or larger)
  • String
  • Quart canning jar with lid

As you can see, this recipe makes two cups of CBD honey. If you want to make less or more, mix with a ratio of seven grams of bud for every cup of honey.

Instructions

  1. Decarboxylate your raw bud. This is an important step if you want to feel CBD’s full benefits. Check out our article Marijuana Decarboxylation: Why And How To Decarb Your Weed for detailed instructions.
  2. Wrap the 15 grams of decarboxylated cannabis in cheesecloth and tie it closed with a small piece of string.
  3. Place the cheesecloth in the quart jar.
  4. Pour 2 cups of local honey into the quart jar.
  5. Place the quart jar in your slow cooker.
  6. Pour enough water into the slow cooker so that it surrounds all the honey in the jar.
  7. Put the lid on the slow cooker.
  8. Set the slow cooker to LOW and cook for 8 hours.
  9. Check back every 2 or 3 hours to make sure the pressure in the jar isn’t building. Crack the lid slightly and then tighten it back down.
  10. After 8 hours, turn the slow cooker off and let the honey cool. You can leave the jar in the slow cooker or take it out (watch out, it’s hot!).
  11. When the honey is cool enough to touch, remove the cheesecloth from the jar and squeeze out as much of the golden goo as possible.
  12. Don’t discard that cheesecloth! Use it to flavor some weed tea.
  13. If you have the time, take advantage of the consistency of the warm honey and move on to making your own CBD honey sticks. If you’ve run out of time, and want to make the straws later, put a lid on the jar and store it in a cool dry place.

DIY CBD Honey Sticks

honey dripping into a jar

Supplies

  • Empty honey bear (the kind with the pointy spout is ideal)
  • CBD honey
  • Straws
  • 2 pairs of needle-nose pliers
  • Lighter
  • Small candle (any candle will work as long as you can easily get close to the flame)
  • Paper towels (for sticky fingers and other cleanup)

Instructions

  1. Pour your homemade CBD honey into the honey bear.
  2. Replace the lid. If you can’t find a honey bear with a pointy nozzle on top, there are videos online that show cool ways to use the flip-top honey bears.
  3. Place one end of a straw over the nozzle of the honey bear.
  4. Keeping a tight grip on the straw, squeeze your CBD honey into the tube.
  5. Leave about an inch of space between the honey and the open end of the straw.
  6. Keep pressure on the honey bear or the honey will be sucked back into the container.
  7. Pinch off the end of the straw that is on the honey bear nozzle and pull the honey bear out. Set the honey bear aside.
  8. If your honey is fairly thick, you can set the straw down on a level surface for a few minutes, but it will eventually run out.
  9. Light the candle.
  10. With one pair of needle-nose pliers, hold one end of the straw about ¼ of an inch from the opening. Keep the opposite end level or elevated.
  11. With your unoccupied hand, pick up the other pair of needle-nose pliers.
  12. Hold the straw close to the flame until the plastic begins to melt.
  13. Move the straw away from the flame and clamp down on the melted plastic with the other pair of pliers.
  14. Hold the pressure for a few seconds to make sure the plastic seals well.
  15. Repeat steps 10 through 14 on the other end of the straw.

That’s it! You’ve made your very own CBD honey stick. Make a few more of those, throw them in a Ziploc bag, and store them in your backpack, purse, or pocket for an on-the-go CBD treat.

Pick The Right Strain For Good CBD Honey Sticks

Even if you’ve never partaken of the wacky weed and you whip up a batch of CBD honey sticks, you know you’re going to feel a little different. That is why you’re doing it, after all.

But being able to plan how you’re going to feel is an important part of having a good experience. And the only way to predict how you’re going to feel is to get familiar with the strains available to you.

It goes without saying that you’re going to use a high-CBD/low-THC strain to make your CBD honey sticks — otherwise, they’d be THC honey sticks, which is a completely different thing.

That said, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with all types of strains, including:

  • Indica
  • Sativa
  • Hybrid
  • Landrace

It’s even beneficial to learn about cannabis ruderalis and hemp so you can make an informed decision about what you want to put in your CBD honey sticks.

While you’re doing your research and learning everything you can about the wide world of weed, here are some suggestions for high-CBD strains to get you started.

  • Charlotte’s Web
  • Ringo’s Gift
  • Harlequin
  • Cannatonic
  • Sour Tsunami
  • Harle-Tsu
  • Canna-Tsu
  • ACDC
  • Warlock
  • Zen
  • Pennywise

Once you understand the effects that a strain has to offer, you’ll be better able to make an informed decision about how you want to feel after ingesting a CBD honey stick.

Then, you can tweak your recipe to make it work for you.

Choose High-Quality Weed For The Best CBD Honey Sticks

Black Dog Kush for CBD honey sticks

Want the secret to making the best CBD honey sticks possible, regardless of the strain you choose?

The best advice we can give — whether this is your first time or your hundredth time — is to always use high-quality, organic weed in any edible recipe. When you’re brewing up a batch of CBD honey or CBD honey sticks, opt for beasters, or, better yet, headies if you can afford it. Your stash will last longer (because you don’t have to use as much to feel the effects), you’ll get more mileage from a small amount, and the experience will be out of this world.

If you can’t find the first two, mids will do in a pinch, but always shy away from regs (the literal bottom of the barrel) unless you have no other choice. And, when possible, insist on including organic marijuana and organic marijuana products in any of your DIY, recreational, or medicinal efforts.

That even applies to weed you put in your body in other ways, such as:

  • Joints
  • Blunts
  • Spliffs
  • Backwoods Blunts
  • Wax
  • Shatter
  • Budder

Organic marijuana is free of harmful fertilizers, pesticides, and chemicals that will harsh, not just the benefits of the CBD, but your body as well. By extension, then, any products you buy or make that don’t include organic marijuana, have the potential to include stuff you probably don’t want coursing through your veins. So, if you’re looking for the best CBD honey sticks, don’t settle for anything less than a high-quality organic marijuana strain.

Buy And Try Before You DIY

Before you put all the time and effort into making your own CBD honey and CBD honey sticks, we suggest buying the pre-made variety first. Visit your local dispensary or purchase from a reputable source online, and then see how often you actually use your CBD honey sticks.

Are they your new favorite way to ingest CBD? Or are they fun once in a while and not really worth the time, effort, or expense? Only you can answer those questions.

If you absolutely love the convenience of them and you’ve got some free time on your hands, try making your own.

Either way, CBD honey sticks are a fun and convenient method to get the medicine you need.

How to make cannabis butter

The versatility of cannabis is indisputable even by those who do not love this plant. This time we are going to explain the recipe for cannabis butter, it is very simple and can be used almost in any dessert.

It is not necessary to remember that we do not all have the same tolerance to cannabis, it is an important thing when we do not cook just for ourselves (for a group of friends, for example), and another thing to keep in mind is that all the people who go To participate in these cannabis bread, cookies, cake, or whatever, they must be aware that our butter is “magic”.

Verify that everyone is 18 years old or the legal adult age of each country so as not to face possible problems. Otherwise, you will already know that they can accuse you of intoxication or something more serious, think about it before being funny, with this you can have a good time but another person can have a real nightmare, this is serious.

Once notified, I will consider that we are going to have a good time in the kitchen and have fun with this recipe, and cooking with marijuana that we can then use to make cakes, cookies, etc. In these first pictures, you can see all the ingredients that are going to be used. Not only are we going to make marijuana butter, but we’re also going to make it coloured, psychotropic, right? This last part will be ideal if your cannabis butter recipe is destined for a party with friends.

Table of Contents

cannabis butter ingredients

  • Stick butter
  • Food colouring for confectionery of different colours
  • Fine marijuana manicure
  • Water dipper
  • Sugar
  • 3 tea filters
cannabis butter ingredients

As you can see, I do not weigh the marijuana, I put 2 tea filters of 40 millimetres and another of 50 millimetres, I fill them with cannabis manicure cleaning the edge of the filter when closing it so as not to have loose leaves that when consuming it could be uncomfortable. The water is brought to a boil and with it we begin to make 3 peculiar butters.

Types of Cannabis Butter & How to Make Them

Blue cannabis Butter Recipe

We will call this butter ligth:

  • 250 grams of butter
  • 125 grams of sugar
  • 3 or two filters with manicure, but without passing us
  • Blue food coloring

The power of the ceramic hob or the kitchen fire becomes strong at first, until the water boils it is not advisable to put the filters with the cannabis. Once the saucepan is boiling, reduce the power to medium-low for around 20 minutes with the cannabis inside (this part is almost as if you were making an infusion), which boils very softly. In the final stretch of the indicated time we add the sugar and stir. The sugar will actually be absorbed when you are cooling the butter, it will give it a sweet touch, but the vast majority of the sugar will be lost in cooking.

Blue cannabis Butter Recipe
Blue cannabis Butter Recipe

After this time we can add the butter and the blue coloring, with a small tube it is enough, it is necessary to stir from time to time so that the sugar does not stick to the bottom of the saucepan and the mixture is homogeneous. Once the block of butter is inside, we continue to simmer so as not to overflow the saucepan. Stir frequently.

After about 20 minutes over low heat, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool to room temperature, they can spend hours at rest but above all,  never put a burning or hot saucepan in the fridge,  remove the coffee filters when not burn too much and squeeze them with a spoon into the saucepan (it is where there is more substance).

Blue cannabis Butter Recipe

Stir for the last time and leave in the saucepan for about five hours to rest, now you can put it in the fridge and wait at least another 5 hours until the butter is ready. The result is as shown in pic.

Red cannabis butter recipe

We will call this butter hard :

  • 250 grams of stick butter
  • 125 grams of sugar
  • 3 stronger pressed tea filters, with more amount of manicure to make the effect greater
  • Red food coloring

This butter has the same production method as blue butter, we are simply going to leave the filters on the fire for 40 minutes, instead of 20, so that the liquid absorbs more substance from the 3 pressed cannabis manicure filters. Remember to drain them last to get the most juice out of them.

Green cannabis butter recipe

We will call this Jedi butter:

  • 125 grams of butter
  • 3 tea filters well pressed as in hard butter
  • Green food coloring

As you can see, this butter does not contain sugar and you have less amount of butter so it has less body, normally butter, it is made without sugar, I like that it is sweet and has more body for the pastries that we are going to make in the future. Jedi butter has the same load in tea filters as red and the same cook time as blue.

Green cannabis butter recipe

The result will be a butter only for Jedi, not suitable for people from the dark side of the force (remember the warning at the beginning, no jokes with this).

Depending on the pastry recipe that we make then it will be lowered in the future or normal butter will be added, let me explain:

If we are going to make a broth cake or a sponge cake, these do not have to have butter. Then we can put a piece of butter in the oil of the cake and dissolve it in it to make it uniform.

If, on the other hand, we make cookies with chocolate chips, the doses of butter are usually high. In this case it would be crazy to put all of our marijuana butter in them. A reduction should be made with normal butter, depending on our needs. Soon we will have different recipes on the blog, so you will know how to use this butter with Yoda’s wisdom ahead. If you want to consume it spread on toast or directly as an accompaniment you can do it, but do it in moderation and step by step to know how each of the butters we have made suits you.

Finally, I leave you the raw result of the three butters fresh out of the fridge after hours of patience. The blue colouring is the one that has convinced me the least, and the red and green have been the ones that have best merged the ingredients.

Depending on the colourants and the amount of cannabis, the end result will be one or the other. The question is to go testing colourants and dosages to find the cannabis butter that we like the most in flavor, colour and shape for each one of us.

How To Make Cannabis Bread

Consuming Cannabis with food such as cannabis bread is one of the most delicious, and above all fun, ways to consume this delicious plant. In addition to the taste is much more delicious, cannabis provides more powerful psychotropic effects when ingested.

Cannabis Recipes To Make Cannabis Bread

There are many cannabis recipes that we have taught you at Cannabisnic. If you liked them, surely this fascinates you. Far from marijuana butter, brownies, cookies, and custards, there is a world of truly delicious recipes that can be incredibly delicious. Today we want to teach you how to make bread.

Cannabis Recipes To Make Cannabis Bread
Perfect Bread Made with Cannabis

Whether for cakes, pizza, sandwiches or bread sticks, bread is an essential food in our life. It is delicious and in Spain peoples have a tradition of using it to accompany all meals. What if we accompany this delicious food with a little marijuana / cannabis? The result can be truly amazing.

To prepare Cannabis bread you need to use:

Steps to create your delicious Cannabis bread

Follow the following mentioned easy process to make cannabis bread at home;

  • The first thing to do is place the yeast in a bowl with warm water and dissolve it. We put the butter to heat in a saucepan, without it coming to a boil, and when it melts we mix it together with the other ingredients in a large container. Now is the time to start stirring everything until we get a homogeneous mass.
  • This dough should be placed on the flour on a flat surface (to avoid sticking) and knead vigorously for about 10 minutes. The fluffiness of the crumb will depend on how long we are kneading the bread. The longer we do it, the fluffier the result will be.
  • With the intention that the bread grows and increases in size, we let the dough rest, covered with a clean cloth, in a warm environment. Once it has grown, we knead it again for at least five more minutes. After this, we place the dough on the baking tray and let it rest for another 45 minutes. Meanwhile, we heat the oven to a temperature of 240ºC.
  • When the 45 minutes have passed, we put the dough in the oven that will already be hot and let it bake for about 35 minutes. And ready! You already have your delicious bread made. Now you can use it to make toast or eat a hamburger. Everything completely to your liking.

Tips for Outdoor Cannabis Growing

we have compiled a series of tips for growing cannabis outdoors. They are basic notions for outdoor Outdoor Cannabis Growing crops to come to fruition and provide us with great cannabis crop harvests.

Table of Contents

Before Starting Outdoor Growing Of Cannabis

1.- Choice of the place of cultivation

Cannabis is a plant that loves the sun, therefore we must find a well-lit area, making sure that there is nothing around it that can cover it with shade.

The crops are usually oriented towards the SOUTH or SOUTH-EAST , in this way the shadows will be oriented towards the North and will not cover our plants.

2.- Don’t talk about your crop

One of the worst pests that exists has only two legs and is of the same species. Do not brag about your cultivation with acquaintances or friends, most of the robberies caused in the crops, end up being someone close to the cultivator.

3.- Choose a seed adapted to your climate

The privileged people who live in hot climates and with little rainfall, will be able to grow any type of variety, regardless of its indica or sativa percentage.

Those who live in colder and more humid areas will have to look for genetics resistant to fungi, with the best choice being short-flowering, sativa-dominant hybrids. The flowers of sativa genetics are fluffier and less dense, facilitating air circulation inside, this hinders the proliferation of fungi.

We had also published a guide on how to select marijuana seeds, take a look there!

4.- Don’t skimp on the substrate

We can make our own substrate, but if we do not really know the needs of cannabis roots, it is better to choose a specialized substrate for growing marijuana. I have seen crops spoiled by buying the universal substrate from the Chinese. Invest something to win!

5.- Good quality fertilisers

The plant needs a good and balanced diet, because a steak is not the same as a hamburger from a fast food chain, right?

Solid fertilisers can be used (worm humus, bat guano, palm ash, fish meal …), they are slow release fertilisers, they will release the nutrients throughout the crop when the plants require it.

Tips for Outdoor Growing of Critical Bang Cannabis, Outdoor Cannabis Growing

On the other hand, we have liquid fertilisers (Advanced Nutrients, BAC, Biobizz, Top Crop …), the plants will have the food immediately.

Tips For Outdoor Growing Of Cannabis

1.- Planting at the right time

If we are going to grow autoflowering plants, the ideal is to put them in June, because we will be taking advantage of the months with more hours of light of the year.

If we grow photodependent, it all depends on the final size of the plant we want to harvest. For medium plants we will grow in late May or early June; If, on the other hand, we are looking for monstrous plants, we will start the cultivation in March so that they grow at ease.

2.- Adjust the PH and EC levels

The PH (potential of hydrogen) in the irrigation water is very important, depending on the acidity levels of the water, the plants will be able to assimilate more or less nutrients. To measure it, it is advisable to purchase a digital PH meter, they are by far the most accurate, therefore we will always adjust the water after adding the products we use.

If we water with an inadequate PH, we can cause a nutritional blockage as the salts accumulate, to solve this we carry out a root wash. In the next irrigation, we will add a small dose of fertilizer in the irrigation, little by little the plant will recover.

The EC (electroconductivity) is the ability of a liquid to transfer electricity. Osmotic water has an EC = 0, it does not conduct electricity, we add the salts to it when we add the fertilisers. Depending on the genetics that we grow, it will accept one or other levels of EC, we can ask the cannabis seed institutions about the required feeding.

3.- Take all necessary preventive measures

Although outside there are natural predators against pests, it is also necessary to take some preventive measure, especially against fungi and pests.

Neem oil and horsetail, for example, will help us keep certain unexpected visitors at bay. The ground eggshell, making a circle around the plants, prevents snails and slugs from approaching.

4.- Make a good

Pruning can be done during the entire growth phase, if we do it in flowering we will only be able to stress the plant, consequently slowing down its flowering.

A low pruning before entering the flowering, will help us to prevent the attack of fungi. Removing part of the foliage increases the ventilation between the branches.

Pruning can also be used as a height control technique.

7.- Control of the final height of the plants

There are various techniques to control height, some cause greater stress on our plants than others. Pruning (Apical, FIM, RIB …) are techniques that generate little stress on plants; The supercropping is based on making the stem of the plant explode, being totally bent, if it was done well the next day it will be upright; Finally, the LST (Low Stress Training), in Spanish “low stress training”, is based on tying a string to the branches we bend them outwards.

How To Finish Outdoor Cannabis Growth

1.- Carry out a root wash before cutting

Tips for Outdoor Cannabis Growing. Drying

To achieve a healthy harvest, with a good taste and quality, it is necessary to thoroughly wash the roots . This technique consists of watering the plants with triple litres of the capacity, in pots it will be triple the litres of the capacity of the pot and outdoors, triple the hole made.

Root washing is usually done 15 to 20 days before harvesting our plants, getting the plants to expel excess salts before harvesting.

Imagine that outdoors you made a hole to fill with a 50 litre bag of substrate, to wash the roots we will water with 150 litres of water.

2.- Harvest at the right time for Outdoor Cannabis Growing! Patience

To harvest we can be guided by the recommendations of the Cannabis Growing institutions, although it is not the most reliable, because by planting the same variety, not all of them reach their cutting moment at the same time.

To know the exact moment of when to prune cannabis plants?, we will use a hand microscope, we will be able to observe the trichomes and their color change. Depending on the color of the trichomes, we will obtain one or the other effects.

  1. Clear trichomes: Too soon, not yet time to cut
  2. Milky trichomes: High point of THC, more balanced effect.
  3. Milky trichomes with some amber: Trichomes begin to mature, increasing their narcotic effect
  4. Amber trichomes: Trichomes are opaque amber in color, THC degrades into other less psychoactive cannabinoids such as CBN. The effect is much more narcotic.

We hope that with this list of tips for outdoor cannabis cultivation, it will help you and at the end of the season you will get monstrous plants.

Varieties Outdoor Cultivation Of Cannabis

We asked 5 cannabis growing institutions about which varieties they recommend us for outdoor cultivation this year

1. Super Auto Big Bang from Sputnik Seeds

Super Auto Big Bang by Sputnik Seeds, Outdoor Cannabis Growing

The genetics of the Super Auto Big Bang (indica 60% – sativa 40%) comes from the crossing of Cheese XXL x Mandarin. In outdoor crops, it usually reaches 1.5 meters in height, in some cases it has reached 2 meters in height.

It is harvested in just 80 days, from the beginning of its germination until the day of its harvest. With love, a balanced diet and a lot of love, you will obtain yields of more than 100 grams per plant.

THC levels are around 19% and CBD levels 1.8%, which gives us balanced effects between happiness and relaxation.

2. Northern Light from Royal Queen Seeds:

Northern Light by Royal Queen Seeds, Outdoor Cannabis Growing

We are facing one of the most classic varieties, an indica plant with a strong effect and fruity flavor, having it ready in the second half of September.

When we grow outdoors we can obtain plants of 2 meters in height and between 500 – 600 grams of harvest.

Northern Light is a genetics that has won numerous cups.

3. Quasar from Buddha Seeds

Quasar from Buddha Seeds Bank, Outdoor Cannabis Growing

Quasar genetics is the pure balance between indica and sativa , it comes from a pure indica and a backcrossed sativa.

It has a very vigorous growth and a great capacity for rooting, if we grow in pots, in a matter of two weeks it will ask us for a transplant.

During the flowering phase it is a very gluttonous plant, thanks to this it will provide us with large, compact and very resinous buds.

4. Haze XXL Auto from Dinafem Seeds

Haze XXL Auto from Dinafem Seeds, Outdoor Cannabis Growing

This is an automatic Outdoor Cannabis Growing variety, yet it still keeps all the flavors of the classic Haze. The aroma and flavor of this strain is of church incense, cedar wood, pine and metallic notes.

This is a plant with great resistance to pests and fungi, making its cultivation much easier.

Dinafem recommends it to beginner growers due to its ease of cultivation.

HOW TO CHOOSE MARIJUANA SEED

Good Smokes Naturalists! It is becoming more and more difficult to choose marijuana seed for our first crop. Year after year we see new seed banks and varieties appear everywhere. Then we go into other questions, which beginners often do not know how to answer, such as: indica or sativa; regular, feminised or auto-flowering?

Table of Contents

MARIJUANA SEEDS FOR BEGINNERS

If we are going to debut in the self-cultivation of marijuana, it is preferable to do it the simplest the first time, in this way we will not be discouraged.

First of all, it is better that you choose varieties of indica predominance, they are collected in less time and are easier when growing. In order not to worry about the sex of the plants, we will choose feminised varieties, with this we will make sure that they are all female.

IMPORTANT! It is not recommended to grow auto-flowers in our first crop. These types of plants have a particularity, if they suffer stress during growth they can become dwarfed.

For the first choice of a marijuana seed, it is better to seek advice from opinions or go to a trusted growshop. Whether you like it or not, marijuana seed bank catalogues have a marketing job behind them.

One recommendation is that we choose varieties such as Skunk (Skunk), easy to grow and quick to harvest. A variety that I love is Cheese, it will be easy for you to grow and you will have a grateful harvest. Another traditional variety that draws attention for the resin it gives off is the White Widow (White Widow).

CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING YOUR MARIJUANA SEED:

ACCORDING TO LOCATION – INTERIOR / EXTERIOR:

Outdoors, we can grow any type of variety as long as time permits. In indoor crops, however, it is not advisable to grow very pure sativas, this is because when growing so much it is very difficult to control their height.

ACCORDING TO THE CLIMATE OF THE AREA:

It is necessary to know well the climates where we are going to grow, for example, in areas where early rains come, we have to choose varieties to harvest in September. In this way we will save the appearance of fungi and not risk losing the harvest.

ACCORDING TO OUR LIKES (FLAVOR):

Sativas usually have a greater range of flavors than indica, some of the tastes that we can highlight from sativas are: incensed, earthy, metallic and even spicy flavors.

The flavors of the indica varieties are usually fruity (citrus, tropical fruits, bitter …) and sweet (biscuit, caramel, vanilla …). There are also the Afghan varieties that stand out for their deep hashish flavor.

ACCORDING TO THE FINAL SIZE OF THE PLANT:

If we have little height, whether inside or outside, we have different solutions. If we grow indoors we can perform techniques such as SOG or SCROG, both will help us control the height of the plants.

When we grow outdoors on a terrace or balcony and we do not want them to grow too much, we can:

  1. Grow auto-flowering (smaller size)
  2. Plant in mid-late July (Plants will be short)
  3. Pruning until flowering time
  4. Techniques such as SCROG can be adapted to the outside

FOR THE RAPIDITY OF THE HARVEST:

To have a great harvest and quickly, the indica varieties are used, we will obtain a good production in just 7 – 9 weeks.

The harvests of sativa varieties are usually scarcer, apart from the fact that we have to wait 10 to 16 weeks depending on the variety.

Also Read: When to harvest and how to prune cannabis?

ACCORDING TO THE SEARCHED EFFECTS:

If we are looking for narcotic and bodily effects that leave you relaxed, you are looking for indica varieties, the ones that lay us down on the couch while we watch TV.

For more euphoric and cerebral effects, which help us develop creativity, they are sativa varieties, they provide a feeling of joy and increase appetite.

ACCORDING TO THE RESISTANCE OF THE PLANT:

There are varieties with greater resistance to fungi or certain pests such as Red spider. It is important to find out about the pests that attack in your area, if the humidity levels in the environment are high or low, all these details are important to choose the best marijuana seed for your crop.

CANNABIS SEEDS IN BULK

We have high quality bulk cannabis seeds with a germination rate of over 90%. This type of cannabis seeds, by not carrying packaging and a marketing strategy behind, can be offered at much cheaper prices and adjusted to the current situation.

Bulk cannabis seeds are not synonymous with poor quality, I have also had bad experiences with recognised banks and this does not mean that they are worse. we had already published an article on How do I know if I have quality cannabis seeds?.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING MARIJUANA SEED:

  1. Do not be guided only by the description of the marijuana seed bank, look for opinions or ask for information in your trusted marijuana grow-shop.
  2. Do not take it in a hurry, be patient and choose the best option.
  3. Every year new varieties come onto the market, they are more widely publicised in the cannabis media, but not for that reason they are better than those that do not have these possibilities.
  4. Always buy your marijuana seeds from an official supplier, with this you can save yourself a lot of problems or future scams. Counterfeit seed containers from prestigious banks have been discovered, this can create problems for both the grower and the brand.
  5. It is NEVER too late to cultivate marijuana, I have put seeds to germinate at the beginning of August, so I encourage you to self-cultivate and obtain your own fruits.
  6. Many growers put auto-flowering and photo-period marijuana seeds outdoors, thanks to this they will obtain a pre-harvest of marijuana crops, obtaining enough to smoke until harvest time arrives.
  7. If we are going to cultivate in mother earth, we can start preparing the land in February, in this way the land will already be ready and rich in nutrients.

We hope that it has helped you to clear up any doubts, in any case, any doubts you have can be transferred to us in a comment or through our social networks.
