A luxury product despite itself, the cigar is associated with businessmen and those in power. The best cigars are sold at gold prices. Whether good or bad, the cigar is always composed of the same elements. Let’s do a check in.
The making of a cigar: a ritual that does not change
Even if the popularity of cigars does not tarnish, the manufacturing method has changed little. Indeed, the best cigars are rolled by the expert hands of torcedors. Whether crafted in Cuba, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, or any other country in the world, a cigar is always made the same way.
Of course, there is also a less orthodox manufacturing method that produces lesser quality cigars: the one that uses machines. Certainly, the yield is higher, the composition of the cigar remains the same, but the tobacco leaves used are often of lower quality and the rolling impersonal. The soul and passion of the torcedor does not live through the vitola, which also makes it lose its taste.
The composition of the cigar
In addition to the head that is brought to the mouth and the foot that is set on fire with the flame of a lighter, a cigar can be broken down into three parts. Here are which ones.
the tripe
This is the heart of the cigar, in other words, the invisible part. It is made of cut or rolled tobacco leaves.
The binder
These are tobacco leaves that cover and protect the filler. It is also the middle part of the cigar.
The Cape
It is represented by a large rolled tobacco leaf that wraps the cigar and allows its finishing. It is therefore the visible part of the upper which comes to rest on the binder. Its color may vary depending on the type of tobacco used. It is for this reason that there are light yellows to dark browns.
